One tradition my family always used to have at Christmas time, was to turn on the television on Christmas Eve, and have the twenty four hour yule log showcase going. For those that don’t know what that was, on a local TV station, they used to play Christmas music non-stop and commercial free for a full twenty four hours, and then they would show a fireplace burning with a log in it by a Christmas tree. It was a great thing for those people who didn’t have fireplaces in their home. It added to the whole Christmas spirit! My family used to leave the TV on with the sound completely off when we went to bed, just so the image of the fireplace and the log was going all night long, and then we would wake up the fireplace and log on the TV. It was really a nice warm memory. This last Christmas, I couldn’t believe when I seen that they were rerunning the old yule log programs in the same fashion as back in the day! When I found out about it, I insisted that we do what I did growing up with the TV on all night, etc. My wife thought I was crazy because we have a beautiful electric fireplace in our home. But our kids loved the idea! So with me and the kids against my wife, of course, we won! It was so nice reliving those old times this past holiday with my own children. My wife got to appreciate it too in the end.
