How I destroyed my first air conditioner on accident

I knew that I had to balance the air conditioner in the window while I tried to close the glass

I remember when I turned 18 and moved out of my parent’s house on my own. Technically, I wasn’t completely on my own. I couldn’t afford to get my own place, so I moved in with a friend, and we shared all of the bills. The apartment that we were living in had its own furnace that worked very well. The landlord was responsible for fixing the furnace whenever it stopped working, and he was very dependable. The furnace stopped working a few times during the first winter, but the landlord always had an HVAC technician at the house by the following day. Unfortunately, the apartment didn’t come with an air conditioner, so we had to find out our own way to cool the house during the summer. We lived in the midwest, and the temperatures would climb into the 90s during the summer afternoons. In order to make myself feel a bit more comfortable, I went to the store and purchased a window air conditioner. In hindsight, I should have purchased a second window air conditioner. When I tried installing the window air conditioner I purchased, I didn’t know what I was doing. I knew that I had to balance the air conditioner in the window while I tried to close the glass. Unfortunately, I had the air conditioner hanging a few inches too far outside of the window, and when I tried to close the glass, the air conditioner fell out of the winter and onto the sidewalk a few stories down. There goes that idea. I wonder if the store will let me return the air conditioner.
