As a kid, I tried to help repair the heater

I distinctly remember a afternoon when the oil furnace stopped working at our house.

I was 12 years old, and I remember that the house began to grow colder.

It was early in the afternoon on a Tuesday, which meant that every one of us wouldn’t be able to go to the school where the oil furnace would always be working, but our mom told us that every one of us would have to bundle up and wait until the Heating and A/C professional came to repair our oil furnace. I asked her when the Heating and A/C professional was coming, and she told myself and others that he might show up later that afternoon or early the next afternoon. I was cold, and I didn’t want to wait that long to have a working oil furnace. A few weeks prior, Christmas had happened, and I gained a tool kit for Christmas. I had some basic tools, and I came up with what I thought would be a honestly clever idea. I was going to help repair the oil furnace so that our house wouldn’t be frosty anymore. I snuck down into the basement where the oil furnace was located, and I used my screwdriver to take the cover off of the oil furnace. Thankfully, my dad had already turned the breaker off to the oil furnace, or I would have absolutely electrocuted myself at that moment. I began taking the oil furnace off piece by piece and tested them. I didn’t know what I was looking for, however I figured that if I could find the broken section to the oil furnace, every one of us could absolutely replace it and put it back together. Unfortunately, I broke one of the components, and I didn’t know how to hide it, but my mom heard it, and she came down and realized what I was doing. I was grounded.
