HOA Getting Crazy About HVAC Rules

Living in a gated community has its perks.

It’s very nice that I am fortunate enough to be able to live in a nice neighborhood with my family. I like that there is an added measure of security. The golf course and club house are pretty cool too. I have even been known to wander to one of the ponds and fish a while with my young son. I love coming home to a perfect HVAC controlled home. There are indeed many excellent points to be made about a gated community. However, putting up with an HOA that borders on absurd is not one of the things I enjoy about living here. They just seem to get so totally mental over the smallest things. I get that we all want to maintain property values and have a lovely looking neighborhood but, our HOA just goes way overboard. I have received numerous letter about the color of my HVAC. The HOA is all up in arms because the condenser cabinet of the HVAC unit is faded from the sun. Our HVAC is older but has been superbly maintained. So, we won’t be replacing it for another year or two at least. I agree the HVAC cabinet outside my home is a bit faded. I offered to paint it. But, that is not nearly enough for the HOA. They are threatening me with thousands of dollars in fines if I don’t replace it or build an approved fence. There is no way that is ever happening. Happy to paint the thing but that’s as far as we go. Beyond that, they can enjoy banging it out with my mean lawyer.
