I have to admit that I love that first telling cold breeze in late autumn.
I know this means that winter is on its way.
The smell of the first fireplaces being lit along with the leaves falling just reinforces that feeling. It’s true, I love winter. When these tell tale signs present themselves, this is also the time that I start thinking about the HVAC. I have the HVAC tech come out to perform the seasonal maintenance on our HVAC furnace. He also goes over the rest of the system to inspect for possible problems. Winters are tough up here. If you are not prepared, it makes it tough to enjoy and you find yourself in a tough spot. The focal point is, of course, the HVAC heating method. Most of us have a modern furnace that is both efficient and powerful. However, this vital piece of equipment operates nearly non stop for 6 months at a time. It needs regular attention to be sure that it is in great shape and can be relied upon to warm my family through the winter. Yet, there is still a need to give attention to the other side of the HVAC system. The air conditioner may be off but, it still needs attention. The HVAC condenser and compressor sit outside the house. They have to braver the winter. So, I have a hard plastic shell which fits over the entire cabinet. This keeps the weight of the snow and ice of it. Plus, it protects the HVAC unit from falling ice. Just a little attention during the winter will ensure the other half of the HVAC makes it through the winter too.
