I hate the domestic calls

They could have their own comfort and they wouldn’t need to fight over one thermostat

Being a police officer, I believe that of all the calls we receive, the domestic abuse calls are the most aggravating. If they actually pertained to violence to each other, I would gladly go on the calls to make sure people were safe. Most of the time, all I did was talk to the couple. I did arrive to see a couple who was out of control, just two days ago. The entire time I was trying to talk to them, they were trying to swat at each other across my body. They weren’t even listening when I warned them that if they didn’t stop, I would need to arrest them both. I didn’t want to take either of them to jail, but I was sorely tempted. I think the most aggravating part of it all was the reason they were fighting. They had bought a new Smart Thermostat and they were arguing over who would have control of it. He was yelling at her because he wanted to conserve energy and cut down on their energy bills. She wanted to be comfortable in her own home, and she didn’t care how high the energy bills were. They were fighting over the thermostat, and they nearly had the entire mechanism torn off the wall. I told them that if they had Zone Control and if they were smart, they would each pick a room. They could have their own comfort and they wouldn’t need to fight over one thermostat. It was all I could do to keep my temper when the problem was easily solved. Before I left, they had chosen their own rooms and they had the thermostat set to where they were comfortable. I hope this is the end of being called to their home.
