Foreign country fitness room and geothermal pool

One of the best and strangest experiences of my life was trying out a personal training center in a foreign country.

The country I visited was not known for being weight conscious.

There was a giant training center situated in the middle of one of their smaller towns. This gym includes an olympic sized swimming pool that is geothermally heated. There are numerous steam baths, saunas and hot tubs available. Inside the facility, there are all types of fitness equipment. One room was set aside for machines such as treadmills, ellipticals, rowing machines and stationary bikes. Another room was dedicated strictly to yoga classes. I discovered heavy bags, speed bags and mats available for stretching purposes. Working out and then swimming in the geothermal pool was a really wonderful experience. What was especially strange about the training center was the set up of the locker room. In order to access the swimming area, I needed to shower first. That seems understandable for the sake of cleanliness. However, this gym requires everyone to completely strip down naked for the shower. We had to shower as a group. Then we put on our swimsuits. It was a bit uncomfortable being totally naked in a community shower. I was then wet when I put on a dry bathing suit. Of course, any native to the country had no problem with it. I was very self conscious. It was worth the benefits of getting into the geothermal pool. I did notice the locals ladies stared at me in the locker room though. I wasn’t sure if it was the way I was built? My hair color? I later figured out that it was probably due to my tan lines. The temperature in this country never rises above 50 degrees. I think my tan lines appeared quite exotic.
