Honestly, I’m a bit worried about the economy right now. I know that everyone is trapped in the same boat with this pandemic and economic downturn. Some of us are in a much worse place than others. For starters, a lot of people don’t have any savings to lean on. That has to be a terrifying position to be in when you can’t go to work and our community health is in the toilet. I can tell you, I have been doing everything I can to scrimp and save in order to prepare for the worst case scenario. My family has been joking that I’ve become the energy expenditure Nazi in our house. Every time someone leaves the room I’m running behind them and turning off all the lights. I’ve been screaming about anyone leaving the television on for weeks. I’ve also been a bit overzealous when it comes to our heating & cooling costs. I know that our ancient heating and cooling system isn’t doing us any favors when it comes to saving money. Or energy bills have always been rather high in this house and I assume that it’s because of the aging HVAC system. When we moved in the air handling devices were already several years old. Since then, they have been abused every day while we turn to the thermostat up and down without thinking about the energy consequences. As such, it’s rather expensive to use the air conditioning system at all these days. I’ve been doing a lot of research online to replace the AC units with a more energy efficient model. If we can invest money in a new cooling system now, we’ll be able to save hundreds of dollars each year when the utility bill comes around. Maybe then I can stop yelling at my family.
