A call on Christmas Eve for a boiler repair

Working during the holidays is not something most of us look forward to but working in a home comfort business as a heating technician means that there has to be someone who is on call.

On a certain Christmas Eve, I was the one on call.

A lady called and said that they woke up to a freezing house because the boiler was not running. I knew it was up to me to save them from opening presents in coats and gloves and so I set off to the address for the boiler repair. While I was at the place the homeowner asked if our heating corp had a heater for sale and a furnace filter for sale because they would need a new furnace filter by the end of January. They also wanted to surprise their autistic daughter with a new HVAC system since she was finally moving into her own home for the first time. It was an in-law suite in their compound but it was such a huge step for the family, especially their daughter. They also wanted to schedule a consultation meeting together with their daughter at the heating provider office to learn more about heating and also on a/c care. After that, the only other call I got that day was to repair a gas fireplace, maintenance on their central heating system and I was done for the day. My wife called to tell me that a new regulator had been delivered from a different heating corp. She wanted to find out if I was the one who had made the order. I knew we needed to replace our dial thermostat but I trusted the products we supplied to clients and hence if I was to buy any I would get it from our own business.
