Last weekend I had to call a plumber.
There was no hot water in the house.
The hot water heater was at least 10 years old. My first thought was an issue with the hot water heater. I called a plumbing company that specializes in this area. I got an appointment on the same day that I called. The plumbing technician arrived around 2 in the afternoon. The guy looked at the water heater and decided it could not be fixed. I was honestly afraid of that news, but it made sense since the hot water heater was more than 20 years old. I discussed my options with the plumber and he gave me several hot water heaters to choose from. I chose an energy efficient hot water heater that has a variable switch to change the water temperature. The new hot water heater seems to work a lot better than the old machine. I feel like I have hot water at my fingertips. In the past, I had to wait several minutes for the water to heat up in the master bedroom. Now it feels like I have hot water on demand. The water gets warm almost instantly after I turn on the dial. That means I don’t have to waste a bunch of water waiting for the warm water to begin. The new energy efficient hot water heater is larger than the old machine and it works a lot better. Even though I wasn’t exactly enthusiastic about spending money on a new hot water heater, it was easily the best decision to make.
