When I was in high school, I opted to go to a technical school rather than a university while in my last two years.
- I wanted to learn how to customize cars and took up classes on auto maintenance and customization.
After graduation, I was looking at the many ads for auto shops near me, so I could put in some applications. The school had even offered to help us all get a job once the people I was with and I graduated, although I actually didn’t know of anyone that was finally working yet. I got the addresses of every last auto shop in our area, and I spent the next week putting in my application. I made many copies of my certification in auto restoration and customization, and offered one to any auto shop that allowed me to put in an application. I had been to more than four in one day, when the last one asked if I could wait a few minutes. I thought I had done something incorrect on the application, although I waited. The guy who called me into the auto shop brought me face to face with one of my educators. He said he owned the auto shop, and he was really glad to see I had taken the initiative and put applications down. He offered me an interview right then if I had the time. I walked straight out of the auto shop with a work. He wanted me to learn the auto shop supplier business, but he was already aware of my skills in exhaust modifications. He said I would be a great employee in their auto shop.
