One day I was walking down the hallway at my office building and noticed that there is a room with a gigantic lock on it.
For quite a while I have been wondering what is inside that doorway that causes them to put this huge lock on the door.
It’s not a master lock or anything, it is one of those kinds of locks where you have to punch in the secret code. Anyway, I recently discovered what is back there. Every Wednesday afternoon, our IT company sends a representative into our office to deal with all the problems that people have with their computers oh, and Wednesday I discovered that the room behind the locked door is the server room. I did not even realize we had our own server. I figured that we used a server that the IT company provided, but we don’t. It was also then that I learned that the server room has its own cooling system. Inside that server room there is a mini split air conditioner hanging on the wall. The rest of us, of course, use a central HVAC system with Zone control. Our HVAC system is not considered good enough for the server room, however. Well, it’s not really that it’s not considered good enough. The thing is we need a backup air conditioner in that room because we have about 90 computers in the office, and every single one of us depends on our computers to do our jobs. If the air conditioning goes out, which it sometimes does, we cannot risk the server being damaged because of not having enough cooling. We must be able to drown out the heating that occurs in that small room because of the servers energy being released as heat. So, if I ever get really hot, I’m going to beg someone to open up the server room and let me enjoy that mini-split AC that is hanging on the wall.
