I was bundled in blankets when the HVAC tech arrived.

I called the HVAC company because it was cold in my house.

My furnace wasn’t working, and it was so cold I couldn’t move.

I was bundled in blankets when the HVAC technician arrived, and I refused to move much until he repaired the furnace. I wasn’t happy when he said I needed a new furnace, and there was little he could do to get the heat on. He thought he could coax enough heat out of the furnace to keep the pipes from freezing, but that wasn’t going to do much for my comfort. I wasn’t happy, and I asked him what was so wrong with the furnace that it couldn’t be repaired. He simply said the furnace was almost thirty years old, and I hadn’t changed the air filters regularly. I had nothing to say. I put my nose into my teacup and looked away. He asked if I wanted to order a furnace now, or if I preferred to talk to the HVAC contractor. I peeked at him over my teacup and told him I would order one now. I knew I was about to max out my credit card, but I needed a furnace in the house. He told me that if I had a problem paying for the furnace, I should call the HVAC company and ask for the billing department. They would help me arrange for regular monthly payments, which was normally no credit check and no interest. I thanked him and curled up under my blankets until I heard from the HVAC company on when the furnace could be delivered and installed.
