To save up for a car, I helped with my dad’s shoe business.
It’s a family business, my mom works as the shoe salesperson, my sister as the cashier, and me as the shoe shiner.
My father mainly stocks and stores the shoes. I really disliked shoe shining, but if it helped me reach my goal of a car quicker, then count me in. I mainly stayed in the back of the store, shoe shining, so I usually missed the few interesting stuff that did happen. I did however have one benefit, which is being right next to the heating system. Up north, the winters are harsh, so to be right next to the heater all of the time was great. The rest of my family was up at the front, right next to the cold outdoors. The heat also provided me an opportunity to make a great salesman, as a lot of people would venture towards the furnace and look at shoes there, and I am given the chance to point out some of our best ones. This has worked more than a few times, and I made some sales on my own. This made my father proud, and he even gave me a raise every time I am successful, which I am incredibly thankful for. Since I was right next to the heating device, I also warned my father when it started acting funny, and he was luckily able to repair it before any problems occurred. I finally was promoted to being a salesman, and I also finally saved up for my own car.
