When I was growing up, my parents used to ground me from using the air conditioning! I know that sounds crazy, but I guess when you have six children, you have to come up with some creative ideas to keep everyone on the straight and narrow path.
I think that’s what my parents did with the air conditioning, in my situation.
See, I lived in the upstairs bedroom in our house, and I had a window unit air conditioning system to help keep my room cool enough in the summer. It seemed like the central air conditioning system just didn’t work well enough to cool off my upstairs bedroom during the summer. It worked just fine downstairs, but my bedroom was always swelteringly hot. My parents bought me a window unit A/C for my birthday one year, but then they ended up using it to their advantage as a sort of bargaining chip for me to behave myself. Whenever I would get into trouble, they wouldn’t take away the car or my cell phone. Instead, my dad would come into my room when I wasn’t home and he would uninstall the window unit A/C and take it into his room! I would then have to suffer in the heat until I had apologized and mended my ways. I hated it back then, but now I will have to admit that my parents taking away my air conditioning was a really successful tactic. I hated not having my A/C, and so I tried really hard not to get into trouble.
