There has always been a fascination for me with be self sustaining.
I don’t know why that is so much.
It certainly doesn’t have anything to do with the way I was brought up. I grew up in a house with quality heating and air, a pool, nice cars, fine clothes and all the rest. It was a nice way to grow up but even then, I was interested in a more sustainable sort of life. I wanted to live in more of sort of harmony instead of just consuming for consuming sake. That feeling grew when I left my parents perfect HVAC maintained home and went to college. I studied environmental science and try sought out my passions in this area. It only took me about 10 years after I graduated university for me to be living sustainably and self sufficiently. I have a small piece of land with a small house on it. My wife and I are able to raise just about everything we eat. There is a solar array for electricity and we are able to work our careers remotely. But we also have things like quality heating and air. Our little house has a pair of ductless heat pumps to provide excellent heating and cooling. Of course, we run this HVAC equipment in a responsible manner. We are always aware of the thermostat setting. Still, the ductless multi split does all the heating and cooling we could ever need. It’s a wonderful way to live and not a life filled with privation, just sustainability instead.
