When I went away on a business trip last weekend, I left my husband with a bunch of lists.
There was a list of food items along with a meal plan, a list of chores, and a list of basic household things that he should be aware of.
I fully trust my husband and I understand that he’s a grown man who can take care of himself, but the mom in me wanted to make sure that he was comfortable and well prepared. However, there was one thing that I forgot to tell him about and that was our thermostat settings. We have a smart thermostat and it controls our air conditioning during the summer for us, so we know it’s being run as efficiently as possible. For some reason, I was the only one who downloaded the corresponding app to my cell phone when the smart thermostat was installed. This means that I’m the only one who has control over the settings via my cell phone. We also have the smart thermostat settings locked so our teenage children won’t change the temperature. As soon as my cell phone left the property, the smart thermostat recognized this and turned our AC to a moderate temperature. The smart thermostat didn’t think that I was home, therefore, I didn’t need as much cool air to keep me comfortable. My husband didn’t realize what was happening until it was too late. I was already on my flight and the house was a hot mess. When I landed, I had 20 missed calls regarding the AC settings.
