Dad is now the thermostat gatekeeper

It’s not like I didn’t let everyone know in advance.

So the fact that I took over the thermostat from the rest of the household shouldn’t have been a surprise.

But from the reaction I got when I had the HVAC company install a smart thermostat that had a lockout function, the message wasn’t received. Or maybe, those inside our home just didn’t take me seriously when it came to my HVAC requests. Regardless, I’ve now taken over the thermostat just like I said I would if my heating and cooling wishes weren’t heeded. And it’s not as though I was asking all that much anyway. I simply didn’t want the HVAC equipment to be abused any longer. Walking into the house when it’s a hundred degrees outside to find the sliding glass door open is the sort of abuse I asked to be stopped. Or it was the constant yanking around of the thermostat setting. Someone would come in from being really hot outside and set the thermostat in the upper sixties and then forget about it. All that stuff was super hard on the HVAC equipment and it just wrecked our utility budget. I asked over and over. While I’m not a screamer, I was as intense and serious about the HVAC situation as I could be. The situation didn’t change so I did what I said I’d do and took over control of the thermostat. Actually, the smart thermostat is in control of the heating and cooling in the house. However, I have the code to the manual operation mode for the new HVAC technology and I’m not giving it to anyone. I didn’t even write it down so someone could snoop around and find it.
