I was seriously gleeful when my small city announced last year that an organization was hosting the first ever annual film festival this year in our community.
I consistently thought that film festivals were only in big metropolitan boroughs, but recent internet searches tell me that a lot of small to medium sized cities host similar film festivals every year.
Surprisingly my little neighborhood that I grew up in has also started their own miniature film festival for local indie filmmakers, which is both unexpected and exciting. My parents aren’t interested in attending the events, but at least I can explore the festival when I visit them for a variety of unusual reasons. The film festival in my modern city is held at an independent theater that focuses primarily on stage plays and other live entertainment. They were doing inspections on the facility in the mornings leading up to the start of the film festival and discovered major complications with the theater’s Heating as well as A/C system. It’s late Fall and the people I was with and I have hot and cold temperatures outside in the 30s. You can’t have an event without a working heating system, otherwise your attendees are going to be miserable and leave early. Thankfully the theater was able to get the last hour Heating as well as A/C repairs completed before the start of the film festival. I was gleeful to hear that everything was proceeding according to schedule. I didn’t want to miss out on this year’s films. I was also surprised to see that my cousin was one of the Heating as well as A/C repairmen on the site doing the heating system repairs for the theater. The people I was with and I spoke for a few hours in passing when he was bogged down with work.
