Always Allow an HVAC Pro to Do the Repairing

I work on stuff in the house and my truck pretty much all the time.

Being sort of handy has been a way for me to save a good bit of money over all of these years.

My dad raised me to not be afraid to get in there and figure out a repair. We both spent a whole lot of time working on the family cars, lawn mowers and just about anything else that needed it. These days, I can work on my truck but my wife’s car has too many computer chips to be able to do my own repairs. I wish I had done the same thing with our HVAC recently. The furnace went down a couple of months ago. Being the handy type, I just had to take a look at the problem before I made a call to the HVAC tech for service. That was stupid because I found the problem and figured it would be an easy fix. There was a burned out switch so I just replaced it. The furnace fired right back up and I thought I was a hero. That is until the furnace crashed again a week later. But, this time it was not something anyone was going to be able to fix. The HVAC guy came out. It didn’t take him very long to confirm that the replacement part had failed and cause irreparable damage to the furnace. The furnace was done. And that wasn’t the worst part. Because of doing the repair myself with a non OEM part, I voided the warranty. So, I get to replace a furnace on my dime.
