I Dream of Genie (Jeannie?)

When the cable sitcom “I Dream of Jeannie” ran from 1965 to 1969, I watched every single show.

  • I confess I had a boyhood crush on the lovely Barbara Eden dressed in her navel exposing genie uniform.

More substantial than our infatuation was our fantasy about having a trio of wishes granted by an entity that emerges from rubbing a decorative bottle! Back then the people I was with and I might have wished for some “quality time” with Ms. Eden, a new bicycle, or that our math professor would abruptly disapapple before an upcoming test. I still watch reruns of 1960s sitcoms, however our wish list has evolved. At first, I thought deeply about what extraordinarily rich people wish for. If you have money and power, then any material item is available, but selfish rich people can only wish for more money and power while those more benevolent can wish for world peace or a cure for a disease. Everyone will wish for fantastic health however after that, poorer people usually wish for a most needed item adore a car in good condition or money to buy a new freezer. My wish would be for a new Heating, Ventilation & A/C system, however with fantastic health and a new Heating, Ventilation & A/C system, I would have 1 wish left. My crush on Barbara has long passed and I’m quite happily married to a lovely woman, so “quality time” with a lovely film star is not on our list, however karaoke night at Joe’s bar fulfills our wishes to be a star or perhaps uncover a hidden desire to inflict audible pain on people. The only wish I have left is for a free lifetime Heating, Ventilation & A/C service and cleaning to keep our 2nd wish running for many years and to maintain our first wish for health with fresh scrub air to breathe.
