I thought it would be easy to find a job when I was finished with HVAC repair school.
After all, that was one of the biggest selling points for that program.
All certified HVAC technicians can find work, because it is one of the fastest-growing careers in the country. I absolutely believe that I would finish with my certification program, take the test, and begin working as an HVAC technician in the same month. I was Pretty disgruntled and disappointed when I realized it was going to be a lot harder than that. After finishing with HVAC repair school, it took months to find a job. I had my certification, but no one wanted to hire a person that did not have any experience. I had a wonderful letter of recommendation from my college professor, but no one even asked to look at the note. I went on several different interviews and it took two months before I finally found a job. The company is a commercial repair service and they are known all over the country. They have branches in every single state and the company employs more than 10,000 people across the nation. I had to spend the six weeks in training, but I did receive the regular rate of pay. After that, I trained with a mentor licensed technician for another three weeks. When I was finally done with training., I was three months into the job and I felt like an expert. I wasn’t happy about the long training period, but I really did learn an awful lot about HVAC repair work.
