Almost isn’t enough when it comes to air conditioning

Sometimes we win and sometimes we lose. This is a truth that I’ve been fully aware of since I was a kid. Yet, the losing still stings a whole lot and I’d rather be winning. Even when it comes to my HVAC equipment, there comes some loss. While I’ve been very fortunate to have such quality heating and air as long as we’ve lived in this house, it didn’t end well. But that’s also a result of a decision of mine. Actually, it really was more about a non decision really. The HVAC technician told me the heat pump needed to be replaced last spring. While I heard what he had to say, I really and fully believed that I still had time. Of course, that’s what I wanted to believe since I had yet to save a dime toward the new HVAC unit. To go even deeper into the illogical, I thought that a 25 years old heat pump that an HVAC professional said was done would hold up for another summer. But the summer around here is the sort that simply kills weak heat pumps. And I knew all of this. Still, I decided to not decide on anything and effectively just rolled the dice on the air conditioning last summer. I did really rein in the thermostat setting in order to lighten the load on the heat pump. And I did start saving. But that didn’t stop the heat pump from crashing out in mid August. Not only did I have to pony up for new HVAC equipment, I had to wait nearly a month. Like everything else, there were supply chain issues with HVAC stuff as well.
