I almost had a panic attack when I realized our lake house had a burning smell inside of it, then I started to recognize dizziness and nausea, and exhausting memories came flooding back to when our room was on fire… When I was young, our parents had a space gas furnace in our room to help keep me warm; however, it ended up catching on fire, and I had to be rushed out of our lake house by our parents, but ever since then, I have been paranoid about heating and air conditioning systems and them being a potential fire hazard.
- Thankfully, I have been severely careful, and I have never had concerns… So when I quickly started smelling a burning smell, that is why I started panicking.
I started rushing around our lake house akin to a madman, trying to find the source of the smell. It smelled as if it was coming everywhere. This made me panic even further, because I originally thought it might be an electrical fire. Then I remember I turned the heating device on 10 minutes ago, since it is early winter, and I haven’t used the heating and air conditioning device in awhile. I turned the air conditioning device off, and sure enough, the smell dissipated. That was the issue, the furnace was just burning off dust because it hadn’t been used in awhile. I felt a huge wave of relief, and although I knew this, our heart was still racing in our chest. I went ahead and turned the oil furnace back on, and sat down on the couch to rest.
