Even if my sibling hated mowing the grass, she was obligated to do it at least once a week on a rotating basis along with myself and my younger brother. The people I was with and I were also all expected to cook at least one meal a week, which did wonders for teaching us all basic cooking skills. Neither of my siblings took to cooking with the same fervor that I did, but that didn’t stop them from learning enough to cook for themselves in adulthood and all of the years in between. I know it was the cleaning that had the largest positive benefit for us all. I think that my parents’ insistence on constant dusting and vacuuming has made me a cleaner person and I have better indoor air conditions in my modern home as a result. Vacuuming yearly keeps the dust levels down, preventing more dust from going airborne, getting into my lungs, and clogging my fancy Heating as well as A/C filters. My heating and cooling system filters have increased to $18 a piece and are difficult to budget for when you live in an already dusty environment right out the gate. If I don’t vacuum to keep the dust at bay, it will go airborne and clog my Heating as well as A/C filter quicker. Then I have to buy more filters every year to prevent complications with the cooling system getting unnecessary wear and tear. That’s why I invested in a unbelievable vacuum with a cleanable HEPA filter on the air exhaust.
