I am dealing with my second winter in the northern reaches of our country.
The first one was so stunning and bad that I think I have wiped it from my memory.
The only thing I was capable of was to keep moving the HVAC setting to find any measure of real cozy warmth. This is a level of cold that I would never have imagined was even possible. But here I am. Growing up in a southern state, there just wasn’t much cold during the winter. Sure we had some cold snaps here and there. The HVAC heat pump would come on occasionally just to knock the cold out briefly. So, I was completely unprepared for what last winter brought. I literally didn’t want to leave the house it was that cold to me. This year, I am getting a bit more proactive in an attempt to deal with the cold a bit better. One reason I was so cold is that my house was allowing a whole lot of cold air in and that much HVAC treated air out. I took a few weekend and went about making sure the house was sealed up very tight. From the roof, to the attic, to the exterior of the house, I caulked any spot that looked suspicious. I also added so insulation to a couple of windows along with hanging so new storm doors. Hopefully this year, I will feel a bit more comfortable in my home. And just maybe I’ll be able to go outside and play in the snow a few times. But, I’m not holding my breath on that.
