Trying to get maximum comfort from HVAC heat

Sure, it has to be said.

  • A dude born and raised down south does not have the innate tools to deal with a real winter.

I’m not ashamed of that statement because I can certainly attest to it. Honestly, I wasn’t sure that I would even get through that first winter with any marble left in my head. Thank heavens for HVAC heating, right? Growing up in a land where the ugliest winter gets is maybe having to wear a coat for a few days, I was not at all ready for winter up north. We moved up here to be closer to my wife’s parents. It’s family so I get it. But that doesn’t make me any more warm. I simply couldn’t get the HVAC furnace to produce enough heat to really be cozy last year. So, I had the HVAC people come out to have a look at it. The HVAC tech inspected it thoroughly and did some preventive maintenance. However, he told me that there was nothing at all wrong with the HVAC furnace. I explained him how drafty it felt in the house last year and I wondered aloud if the furnace was big enough. Again, the HVAC tech assured me the problem wasn’t the furnace. That’s when he explained the most likely the problem was my house. He said I should really look into sealing the house better. This would prevent the HVAC treated air from leaking out and the cold air from getting in. So, I did just that throughout the fall. Now, I’m ready for my next real winter and I think this one will be much more tolerable.
