Ever since I first moved out on my own, I was sure to always change the air filters with my HVAC system. The thing is, I wasn’t always finding the most reliable air filters. I would just buy whatever happened to be available or whatever was on sale. So long as it was the right size to fit my HVAC, I thought there were no issues. Well, I ended up experiencing a few issues. Poor air quality was the number one problem. People would always ask me if I was changing my air filters because they could see dust floating around in the air. They also would ask if I was getting the ductwork system cleaned. I thought that would be a job for the landlord to take care of, but the one guy I asked just laughed at me. I didn’t ask any other landlords about ductwork cleaning after that, but why shouldn’t people ask? Anyway, I eventually learned from a friend that I had to use quality air filters if I wanted better air quality. I started investing in air filters with higher MERV ratings. Honestly, the higher you can afford, the better your air quality will be. I generally go for the air filters that say they are good for people with allergies. You know if they can block pet dander and allergens, you are probably going to be okay. They have worked great over the years and people actually enjoy hanging out at my place these days now that I have better air quality. I’m glad I made the change.
