Failure to schedule a furnace/heater tune-up almost made a baby shower not happen

My friends and I were planning a surprise baby shower for my cousin and one of our friends had offered a hall in their hotel for an event.

On the eve of the baby shower, I went to check the hall and it was freezing inside.

I called the person who was in charge of the maintenance of the hotel and asked him to check what was wrong with the central heater. He could not come up with a clear answer so I asked him when was the last time they had a heating technician conduct a furnace/heater tune-up on the electric heating system. When he went through his paperwork from the whole-home heating company, he noted that it was over two years ago when the previous manager was in office. This did not sit well with me so I asked him to call the local service provider. Just before noon a heating contractor arrived and set to work, after examining the electric heat pump he informed us that a furnace heater repair would be needed. When he was done he gave the maintenance guy some useful energy-saving tips. He also advised the hotel manager to look into zone control systems that would optimize and save energy. For instance, when the hall was not in use it would be possible to turn off the radiant floor heating through a digital thermostat. I was so impressed by his professionalism and willingness to help us avoid such problems in the future that I asked him for his business card so that I could contact him to check out my temperature control system which had started to give me the wrong readings.
