Installing heated floors in the summer

I am in the process of renovating the first floor of my home.

One of the big projects has been renovating the floors.

We are having new hardwood installed on the entirety of the first floor of the house. I have always wanted beautiful cherry hardwood floors and am so excited to make that dream a reality. My husband had an excellent idea. He has always wanted radiant heated floors, but it never made sense to pull out the floorboards for the installation process, so we have always put that project off. We ended up deciding to install the heated floors while we are redoing the hardwood. That way, we can kill two birds with one stone and don’t need to disrupt the home for two different projects. Since we will have the floor opened up for renovations, it turns out that we will actually be able to install the heated floors ourselves. It’s going to be a lot of work on our part, but the project seems like it should be pretty manageable. We were unsure of whether or not we should get hydronic or electric radiant heated floors. After talking with the HVAC company, we learned that it would be best to go with hydronic heated floors given that the rest of our home is already heated with a boiler system. The only thing is that we are installing the heated floors during the summer, so we will have to wait months before we get to try them out!
