The SEER rating is important. The SEER rating stands for the seasonal Energy Efficiency rating. When the serial number is higher, the system is more energy efficient. When the SEER number is high, less electricity is used to run the central system. It is almost like comparing miles to the gallon with cars. I wouldn’t necessarily turn down a car that gets 12 miles to the gallon, but I might exchange that car for something that gets 30 miles to the gallon if I wanted to save money. I didn’t really know much about the SEER ratings and heating and cooling systems until I had to replace a system in my home. It was almost $7,000. When I spend that type of money, I research all of the different parts and pieces. I read about the SEER rating and when I meant with the salesperson to discuss the new machines, I mentioned that I definitely wanted something that was energy efficient. The salesperson was happy to show me several systems that were 18 and 20 SEER rated. The more energy efficient machines were a little bit more expensive and I knew that was going to happen. I was happy with the choice that I made and I scheduled the installation date for 3 days after I met with the salesperson. I wanted to make sure that my kids were out of the house on that day that the system was installed.
