Why does anyone want a fireplace in their home?

I thought a fireplace was too much work to have one in my home.

I remembered how my dad would trudge out into the woods to get downed trees.

He would bring them back to the house where we would cut the trees into lengths and then I had to help split them. It was a lot of hard work, and it made me wonder why anyone would want a fireplace in their home. A fireplace was dirty and way too much work for me. With there an energy crisis going on, I still wasn’t convinced I should have a fireplace in my house. My wife was trying to tell me we should get a fireplace to help with the heating. I tried to tell her why I didn’t want a fireplace, but she told me I didn’t understand what she was talking about. I knew exactly what a fireplace was. I knew how much it smelled, how much smoke got into the house, and how dirty it was. I also knew I didn’t want a fireplace in my house. I ignored her protests and walked away. A week later, I came into the house, and there was a package sitting inside. She told me she had bought a fireplace that would make both of us happy. I started blustering about not having a fireplace. I saw her cross her arms, and then she glared at me. I couldn’t say anything, because she wouldn’t let me walk away. She pointed to the package and told me about the fireplace. It was an electric fireplace that was supposed to use less than $20 in energy a month.
